Your Light

Mia Douglass

When someone forgets

To turn on the light

Things seem to be so dark

Until someone

Clicks your light

And with a “Snap”

It's gone

Things are bad and things are dark

Sometimes

You have to find a new light

One that isn’t so bright

You can make it shine

With your heart

The love that makes your stomach

Feel light as a butterfly

And makes your cheeks burn

The feeling of a cub curled in mothers’ fur

The ones that click off your light

They don’t have the power

You can blind them

With your light

The light you get from blushing cheeks

And burning family love

And the light you feel when you

Wrapped up in love’s arms

The warmest ones

It's hard to be the only on

Whose light doesn't go out

But we can try

With the golden brightness

That you can make

When you feel light

And warm as though you’re in front

Of the fireplace
